Doctor’s Period | Applied Edge Computing (Right now)
When network traffic needs to traverse multiple isolated logical networks each with potentially different addressing and forwarding mechanisms, there is a confliction between developing global control policies over different institutions and accessing their local confidential private data
Thus, we introduce Federated Learning on layered distributed SDN controllers to train a global model to accomplish dynamic application-level network traffic optimization across multiple isolated logical networks, while don’t touch their private transmission data
Master’s Period | Applied Edge Computing
- Research on how to reduce the demand for high bandwidth and enhance the protection of user privacy data with the assistant of edge computing. Take surveillance video as the application example.
- Inspired by FUJITSU’s research, I utilized You Only Look Once v3 (YOLOv3) on Jetson TX2 which worked as the edge server to capture, recognize and track pedestrians, and deployed cloud computing platform, Openstack, as the cloud server and terminals. Then united the pedestrians’ features with timestamp. The system user could query the text results stored in the database first to fetch the interested video clip so as to look for someone appeared in the video instead of playing several video clips from their beginnings. Under this circumstance, the bandwidth requirement of transfer links and the work intensity of system users’ are both reduced, while the private data like public’s trajectories are protected since the system users cannot watch the surveillance video directly

- Utilize FUJITSU Cloud Service K5 IoT Platform (since July 2020, renamed as FUJITSU Hybrid IT Service FJcloud-O) as a datacenter to collect and process data for edge server and devices
- It was my first research project, in which we took advantage of objects detection algorithm, You Only Look Once v3 (YOLOv3), to convert some video information into text information, so that we could reduce the dependence of high bandwidth links. Unfortunately, this research was aborted halfway due to the adjustment of FUJITSU research team. However, it is also the first time for me to learn Docker deployment and utilization. It also gave me inspirations for my Master’s research project that could be regarded as the extension and imitation of FUJITSU’s research

- Develop basic switch function by P4 language on Barefoot Tofino 2 Switch
- The internship gave me a chance to get in touch with Software Defined Network (SDN). My kind instructor who is an experienced engineer taught me related knowledge and P4 language from zero hand by hand. By the end of the internship, I achieved basic Layer 2 switching function on Barefoot Tofino 2. I experienced the flexibility and charm of SDN

- Project about edge computing, perhaps how to reduce bandwidth requirement under video processing case and how to split video into several parts so that they could be analyzed parallelly on different edge devices to accelerate the entire processing speed
